Do you want to kill a conversation ? Try saying "WHATEVER". For the third year in a row , It's "whatever" that holds the most power to annoy, Words like "You Know" and "Like" might be irritating to hear but the most annoying word of the year goes to "whatever".
Marist University in upstate New York gave five words to 1,026 adults and asked them to decide which one was the most grating.Nearly four in ten adults across the country - about 38 percent(down from 49 per cent in 2009) - told the pollsters "whatever" was their top choice for most annoying word.While it clearly has staying power, some balked at the thought that 'whatever', a word made popular in the 1990s cult film Clueless, was truly the worst thing to come out of society's mouths.
While one in five adults had similar disdain for “like” and ‘you know.About 20 percent of adults polled said they were least fond of the word "like," while nearly as many -- 19 percent -- said they knew they couldn't stand the phrase, "you know."
"Just sayin'" came in fourth with 11 percent of the population saying they can't stand to hear that phrase in conversation, and 7 percent said "seriously" should be banned from conversation.
In 2010, "whatever" and "like" came in at number one and two as well, but the terms last year included "you know what I mean," "to tell you the truth" and "actually."

You forgot one, "Really" is another annoying word, it seems lately "really" and "Seriously" are being over used. Not sure where or how this came about, but listen around, you'll see (or hear).
